The bias against Trump is concerning. News should be factual. I used to rely on “The Guardian” for unbiased coverage, but that time has passed.
I’d kept a subscription going to support one of the few non-rubbish news sources, but it seems they will prioritise customer profiling and the generation of marketing intelligence in their cash flow model so maybe they don’t need subscribers. Apparently you can be the customer *and* the product at the same time. I’ve cancelled my subscription.
I’ve given you money in the past. Now it’s no longer enough. I must become a subscriber. Well, I’m retired and am trying to stay away from monthly fees. Time for me to say goodbye.
I can depend on The Guardian for accurate news reporting. It is my favorite news source.
It’s exhausting the follow the news these days and even more exhausting when you find out the people telling you the news are manipulating you in every direction. I first found The Guardian in print while on a visit in the UK, and the closest thing I could compare it to was the New York Times but so much better. 15 years later, looking back, I feel very certain saying that no other news organization would have informed me as well, and as broadly across the globe, as The Guardian. I donate when I can, wish I could give more, and hope folks who can do so, and help keep this diamond in the rough going for all of us. We’ll have a better future for it, I can confirm.
Over just the past few years, the number of typos have increased and some of the articles seem to be written in a dumbed down way or even potentially partly written by AI? All I can say is that the quality has gone down in the writing style, and the typos don’t help. I also paid for this app, but on the website, I keep getting pop ups to pay even more or subscribe and pay an additional fee to stop the pop ups. Not worth buying if I’m just going to have to pay a second time just to read the news on my laptop. I can get the same news written in more sophisticated language without typos from the NY Times and The Economist. I’ve cancelled my subscription to this app as it’s frustrating to read.
I have the free version. I wish I could afford the monthly subscription. One day maybe. But please don’t stop the great news articles and podcasts!!
In my estimation. When I returned to America I summer 2013 from Ukraine where I had served as a Peace Corps volunteer I could depend on the Guardian for Ukrainian news as Russia invaded. I also came to like the perspective on America.
Not afraid to post the truth about what is going on. Love it!
I’m willing to pay whatever the cost is for the Guardian because you get the unvarnished truth! Now I am looking to shed my Amazon account since Bezos is sucking up to trump. SHAMEFUL! M. Fogarty
Very well laid out app, with good coverage of a wide variety of stories, but like most “journalism” sources today, they are very biased. In the case of The Guardian, that bias is far left. I do not support Trump, but I would like a news source that would just report the news, without their spin. I can put my own spin on a story, thank you very much! Uninstalling, and the search goes on for legitimate journalism!
I literally just read ‘No one wants to pay $25 for breakfast’ and I went to the in-app subscriptions link to give you my money. But $100? Just like I’m not paying $25 for breakfast, I’m not spending $100 on subscribing to your app when I can read articles online for free. This article, on your own platform, talks about consumers stretching their pennies. Maybe developers need to read the articles before coming up with subscription amounts. You’re literally driving people away.
My wife and I share subscriptions to various media. She purchased a subscription to the guardian, and there is no way to access the guardian she purchased with her Apple ID on my devices unless I sign out of my Apple ID on my device and sign in to her Apple ID. This is the only media that requires this, and we find it difficult unreasonable. As the subscription was for a year, that means that I do mot have access to the guardian for a year until we cannot allow this to renew. Very disappointing.
Every “front page” story (2/12/2025) is negative toward the Trump admin., fake news.
The Guardian has been my favorite news source for years. Great articles, thoughtful features. But when I switched from Android to iOS I was told my subscription wouldn’t carry over. I had just renewed my annual subscription and now I can’t use it on my mobile device. Customer care says they can’t transfer it and I’ll have to do a new subscription with no refund. Super disappointed. Went from being a lifetime subscriber to never again.
The layout of topics won’t scroll to the right to see the additional topics. iPhone 15.
Used to be good but now you can’t read any articles without creating an account, their website doesn’t do this. No reason they need my information and email address to let me read their articles.
This app won’t stay in memory. Start an article, switch to something else, then come back and you’re back at the home page. This is NOT a device problem. No other app on my iPad can’t save its place for a few hours. That’s bad enough, but the fact that there is no history section that I can find is pathetic.
$75/year for a news app is insane. Do some market research and pricing optimization—$75 is not the sweet spot you think it is.
Everyone’s wanting a subscription now and yes quality news costs, but sorry $67 / yr is too much. $50 I’ll do it. You’re not alone - The LA Times wants $200 / yr ! And the NY Times wants $250, but at least they do a $50 / yr for your first year!May as well pay $10 / month for Apple news. Even the NY Times has a Black Friday offer for $50 though. Come on people, why don’t you try it and see how many more people would bite?! Ps. The subs you offer are a mess : the “All access digital” sub doesn’t inc Guardian Essentials app! Or you could subscribe for cheaper in the “Guardian Live” app for exactly the same content. You guys are great at news, but you need a new head of Digital Business Development as your pricing is all over the shop!!
I am a reader in a hard to reach part of the world! Thanks to Guardian for supplying these useful info And thanks to Guardian understanding the situation in this part of the world. Thanks to guardian for its useful, real, updated info Please bear in mind that i can not send a penny by any means; otherwise guardian is the real guardian of truth You guys are great.
They now make you register to read anything. Even though I just sent them a gift of $125.00. I am not interested in being followed as an individual.
Excellent investigative journalism, and opinion articles with clear sources and contextual proof for news an international team reports worldwide. Independent journalism with full integrity thus objectivity, seem only possible if there's no stakeholder agenda laying underneath. All media owned by billionaires and/or wealthy shareholders have pivoted to infotainment and sensationalism to keep their audiences glued to their platforms ; that is in the best cases… in the worst case those platforms have become propaganda machines for the political agendas of their owners.
The app is clanky; it lags and gets stuck all the time ; the content is produced by amateurs; subscription extraction paywall is almost on all articles. That’s sad, I still like to read conventional media and try to avoid social networks 😔
Often freezes and remains unresponsive for 5-10 seconds when attempting to scroll or click. iPadOS on M1. Update: deleted the app; at least the website doesn’t stall.
My husband and I discussed whether to subscribe to the Guardian. We both like the paper so we decided to do it. Now he has access and I get constant ads to subscribe. No family sharing? That is beyond egregious. It will be a cold day you-know-where before we have TWO $70 subscriptions to a newspaper. If we were able to get home delivery, we’d be able to share the paper. We will not be renewing our annual subscription. Even the NYT allows two people to share.
After requiring account setup, app will not allow login. A shame because this was such a great app prior.
Really miss the (discontinued) crosswords app, which was supposedly integrated into this app….but the functionality and user experience is well below expectations comparatively. Won’t be renewing until this is significantly improved.
No thanks!!!
Removed app because they’re now requiring sign in. That’s the last straw for me, bad enough they ran Greenwald off and became a British MSNBC.
For some reason, the app just chews through my battery… worse than YouTube playing videos, and this is just looking and reading articles. Has to be a better solution?
I have an iPhone 11. The issue generally happens with less prominent articles that are arrayed horizontally. When I touch an article in order to read it in full, I am presented with the wrong article. I haven’t been able to determine conclusively whether restarting the app resolves the issue. I don’t think it does, at least not consistently.
Forced registration is now required to read articles in this app so it’s being deleted.
Constantly nags me to pay for subscription. Why can’t you just make your money with ads like the ap or reuters
The best concert I have ever been to was Springsteen. It is great to find out he has so much political sense too! I am impressed.
The coverage is great, and I love getting a perspective from outside the US, but the main page jumps all over the place. Just as you’re reading a headline, you are suddenly down two swipes, up a swipe, or for some reason at the top of the page. This is particularly irritating when you go to click on an article and something else jumps under your finger just as you touch it. When you hit the back button, who knows where you’ll end up. Arron - very frustrating, and barely worth opening. Please let me know when you fix it.
The very last version doesn’t work at all. Please fix, and I will fix my rating.
I look to the Guardian for fair and valid news. I especially like it’s coverage of world events that are often missing from other US sources.
For the most current news I go to The Guardian (before the NYT, WaPo, or the WSJ).
Im a paid subscriber, but seems very hard to get app to know that. Its glitchy. Ads dont stay in their places. Have to reboot app too often. Running on newer ipad pro with updated os. Wish id kept the print version. Way better.
Always fair and balanced, inhabiting the grey area of these currently divided political conversations.
I love the guardian but the app often stutters and even completely freezes sometimes. I’m guessing that it’s just way too many pictures and maybe too many elements. I highly suggest/request that the developers look at the at The Atlantic app which has by far the best design or even the times. I don’t really care about pictures I’m much more interested in text delineation and fonts.
Now need to sign in to an account to track me in order to use the app? No thanks, app is now deleted.
Even though I am Irish, I love The Guardian!
I am contacting all new sources to have someone contact me. I am sorry just let them know I am here I have done everything I could to contact them
Copy-paste news from AP and Reuters and put them behind a huge paywall. Nice job! Capitalist greed at its best!
I downloaded the Guardian app recently to see how well it works and determine if the quality of both the app and the journalism was worth my time and financial support. Today I was presented an ultimatum, either share my personal info for data mining, ie: “curated ads and content” or not be allowed further use of the app. I have no problem with generalized ads or the requests for financial support but targeted ads is simply google like doublespeak for violating my privacy and selling my data and identity. It’s one thing for a predatory company like google to do reprehensible garbage like they do but a journalist organization that claims a higher standard? That’s a nonstarter for me.
Nope.
Happy to read and enjoy your many interests reporting that is measured and balanced to help us make our own choices about events and circumstances beyond our quick accessible knowledge base to form informed choices/decisions in our lives. Kudos on you all, D Cole
